ThinkPad Universal USB-C Dock– How to Connect & Troubleshooting Guide
Important Before You Start
⚠️ The dock has two USB-C ports:
- Front USB-C port → For accessories/charging only
- Rear USB-C port → ✅ This must be connected to your laptop
⚠️ Use only the original USB-C cable supplied with the docking station.
Other USB-C cables may charge the device but may not support docking/display functions.
How to Connect the Dock
Step 1 – Connect Power
Plug the dock’s power adapter into:
- Power outlet
- Dock power input
✅ Confirm the dock powers on.

Step 2 – Connect Dock to Laptop
Using the Lenovo USB-C cable that came with the dock:
- Plug one end into the rear USB-C port on the dock
- Plug the other end into your laptop USB-C port
✅ The laptop should begin charging and recognise the dock.

Step 3 – Connect Accessories
Connect:
- Monitor(s)
- Keyboard
- Mouse
- Ethernet cable
- USB devices
to the docking station.
Step 4 – Check Laptop Display
After connecting:
- External monitor(s) should turn on
- Keyboard/mouse should respond
- Laptop charging icon should appear

Common Issues
Issue: Dock not detected
Check:
☑ Rear USB-C port is used
☑ Original Lenovo cable is used
☑ Power adapter connected
☑ Restart the dock by unplugging power for 10–15 seconds, then reconnecting
Issue: Monitor not displaying
Check:
☑ Monitor powered on
☑ HDMI/DisplayPort cable secure
☑ Reconnect dock cable
