Setting Up Your New Windows 11 Laptop
First time setup instructions
These steps take around 10 to 20 minutes.
1. Turn on the laptop
Press the power button and wait for Windows to start.
2. Choose your region
When asked "Is this the right country or region?", select Australia then click Yes.
3. Choose your keyboard layout
Select US keyboard (or your preferred layout) then click Yes.
If it asks for a second keyboard, choose Skip.
4. Connect to Wi Fi
Select your Wi Fi network, enter the password, and click Next.
The device will now continue loading.
5. Important: Sign in with your Work or School Account
You will see a screen asking how you want to set up the device.
Choose "Set up for work or school"
(do not select personal account or local setup).
Then sign in using your work email address and password.
This will automatically enrol the laptop into Azure Entra ID and apply your company settings.
6. Create a secure PIN
Windows will ask you to create a sign in PIN.
Click Set up PIN, enter a 6 digit PIN, then click OK.
7. Device naming (important)
Please name the laptop using the following format:
FIRSTNAME-LOCATION
Location codes:
- CNS for Cairns
- TSV for Townsville
Examples:
If you are unable to name the device during setup, that’s completely fine.
We will rename it remotely on our side.
8. Accept the organisation settings
Windows will show a few screens explaining security, privacy settings, and company policies.
Click Next or Accept to continue.
9. Allow a few minutes for setup
The laptop may restart a few times.
It will say "This might take a few minutes" while applying updates and company settings.
10. Once the desktop appears
You’re all set.
The laptop will automatically install your organisation’s apps, security settings and updates in the background. This may take 5 to 10 minutes.
11. After setup is complete
Once you finish all steps and reach the desktop, please send us a quick ticket to confirm everything is done.
Just say something like:
“Laptop setup completed and logged in successfully.”
